Term 1 2023, our students' artwork was brought to life by Jerome Davenport, an internationally renowned street artist, who grew up in the small country WA town of Wickepin.

Jerome brought a wealth of experience, skills and techniques to inspire and challenge students and teachers. The opportunity provided a unique learning experience, with students gaining exposure to new ideas and techniques, and teachers gaining new approaches to their own teaching practices. Building stronger links between the school and the wider artistic community.

Betty Boornar – Monarch Butterfly

Boornar is the Noongar name for Butterfly.

These butterflies can be readily seen around River Valley Primary School. The name Betty honours Mrs Betty Murfit. This is our way of recognising a valued community member who has given so much of her time to the school, in a variety of ways, whether it is representing the community on our School Board, or helping the Year 6 students with history projects or leadership speeches. Betty is always willing to share her time and knowledge with us. We appreciate and thank her for everything she has done to improve River Valley Primary School. The students sought to recognise Betty's contributions by naming our PBS mascot after her.

Sunny Yulart - Skink

Yulart is the Noongar name for Skink.

A skink's sunny disposition and sunbathing habit inspired the name "Sunny." Skinks can often be found basking in the sun around the school. One skink even displayed its playful and curious nature by deciding to become a "library monitor" for the day, nestled among the books in the school library. Their unique interactions—sometimes unexpected—add a special charm to the school’s environment, making their presence feel like a delightful part of daily life.
