Each year, River Valley Primary School hosts a meaningful ANZAC Commemorative Service at the community War Memorial, located on the school grounds. In 2024, the service was honoured by two distinguished guest speakers: Mr. Tony Green and Mr. Trevor Herbert, both Vietnam Veterans. Their presence added a personal and poignant connection to the ceremony, allowing students and attendees to hear firsthand accounts of the sacrifices made by those who served.
The service is attended by representatives from the Shires of Harvey and Dardanup, along with local service groups and members of the community, who gather to pay their respects and reflect on the significance of ANZAC Day. This annual event provides an opportunity for students and the community to come together in remembrance and gratitude for the bravery and dedication of our veterans.
In preparation for the service, students hand-sewed poppies, contributing a personal touch to the occasion. These handcrafted poppies were displayed with pride, adding to the ceremony's symbolism and fostering a deeper connection between the students and the ANZAC spirit.
